According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a Corvette who sustained life threatening injuries in a San Diego car crash was racing another vehicle, causing him to lose control. The injured driver is a 51-year-old Valley Center man who was driving a 2008 Chevy Corvette.

The man lost control of his car while racing along Valley Center Road north of Canyon Road. The driver and the other car were speeding when the man crashed his car through a fenced walking path and slammed into a tree.

Witnesses to the serious car accident reported that the other vehicle, which is believed to be a tan or dark-colored truck, stopped at the scene of the accident and exited their vehicle. The two men, however, fled the scene before the ambulance arrived. CHP officers are asking the public to come forward with any additional information about the other men involved in the racing accident.

Reckless driving behavior such as racing along congested roads is exceptionally dangerous. The risk of travelling at speeds far exceeding the speed limit is hazardous for the driver, the passengers and pedestrians and bicyclists. Luckily in this case, there wasn't a pedestrian along the walking path when the Corvette driver lost control.

The driver who suffered severe injuries in the car crash was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. CHP said that the man has life-threatening injuries but his current condition is unknown.
