A 49-year-old California man was killed after his motorcycle was struck by an out-of-control car. The motorcyclist was from the Poway area, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office.

The driver of the car was a 23-year-old man on his way to Camp Pendleton Marine base. The man told local law enforcement officers that an ash from his cigarette when he lost control. The man was driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z when he traveled into the dirt median before jerking the car into the right lanes, losing control and striking the motorcyclist.

This fatal car accident is still under investigation but the California Highway Patrol is recommending that the 23-year-old car driver be charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Distracted driving on California highways and roads takes several forms. It's not only about texting while driving and cell phone use. Distracted driving is caused by any electronic, person or item that forces a driver's attention away from the road.
