An afternoon crash in Ramona Sunday killed the back-seat passenger of a car, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. The driver is being investigated by the CHP for possible intoxicated driving. Law enforcement officers are continuing to evaluate the crash to determine whether they should pursue felony drunk-driving charges against the driver.
According to the CHP report, the driver of a car lost control while driving along Ashley Road in Ramona. The driver struck a retaining wall in a private yard and the car rolled over. The driver and the front-seat passenger were also seriously injured in the single-car crash that killed the back-seat passenger.
The family of a passenger killed in a single car accident may still have the right to civil claim against the driver. In cases where alcohol use is suspected, the family of the deceased passenger may have the right to pain and suffering damages, medical treatment compensation, lost wages and end-of-life expenses.
A criminal charge against the alleged at-fault driver can help to demonstrate the fault of the driver in a civil claim because the evidence used in the criminal trial will help show the negligence of the driver in a civil claim. If someone you love has been injured in a crash involving alcohol, speak with a skilled San Diego car accident attorney.
