There are countless of commercials and infomercials on television that advertise a variety of products and services. For one man, a particular commercial changed his life. His wife called 1-800-GET-THIN after seeing a commercial about the Lap-Band weight-loss surgery, desiring to undergo the procedure. Unfortunately, after the surgery her health got worse and she died five days later.
Now the man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital and staff where his wife was treated as well as against the company that advertised the procedure on television.
According to the lawsuit, after the weight-loss surgery the man's wife was in a lot of pain and discomfort. She only got worse as time went on. When she was brought to the hospital, it was discovered that she had several small cuts on her liver. Even worse, she had a severe blood infection after blood filled her abdominal cavity.
The man alleges that the Lap-Band weight-loss surgery played a role in her death. Though the primary cause of her death was a heart attack, he is certain that the Lap-Band, a ring implanted on the stomach, contributed to the injuries that ultimately led to her death.
This is not the first time that a patient has died after a Lap-Band surgery. However, an attorney for the company insists that the procedure is not the cause of these deaths.
However, the death of a loved one can be especially difficult to deal with if it was the result of another's negligence. And not only are family members grieving the loss of a loved one, they are also faced with things like funeral costs. Compensation from a wrongful death claim can help a family deal with their loss by helping to eliminate some of the financial stress that can come with an accidental death.

Whenever you feel like eating, look for physical signs of hunger, suggests Michelle May, MD, author of Am I Hungry?
"Hunger is your body's way of telling you that you need fuel, so when a craving doesn't come from hunger, eating will never satisfy it," she says.
When you're done eating, you should feel better -- not stuffed, bloated, or tired.
"Your stomach is only the size of your fist, so it takes just a handful of food to fill it comfortably," says May.
Keeping your portions reasonable will help you get more in touch with your feelings of hunger and fullness.

Mindless eating occurs most frequently after dinner, when you finally sit down and relax.
"Sitting down with a bag of chips or cookies in front of the television is an example of eating amnesia, where you mindlessly eat without being hungry, but out of habit," says American Dietetic Association spokesperson Malena Perdomo, RD.
Either close down the kitchen after a certain hour, or allow yourself a low-calorie snack, like a 100-calorie pack of cookies or a half-cup scoop of low-fat ice cream. Once you find that you're usually satisfied with the low-cal snack, try a cup of zero-calorie tea, suggests Perdomo.

People don't truly understand the risks of being overweight. Why do most want to lose weight? Most would say to look better. Looking better certainly is a benefit of losing weight, but this shouldn’t be the sole reason to lose weight. There is a 1000 pound gorilla in the room and it’s often ignored. Being overweight for a long period of time kills thousands of people each year.
